Mission Impossible: Catching the Cheating Child

Option A- Forehead

Option B - nose

Option C- lips

Option D- chin

Remember this age old code for copying? 😁

Ever since this torture in the name of examination started all of us, who have been kids at some point of our life, have come up with codes and bits and what not , only to get good marks and pass this cruel practice.

Life was made easier for many students when online classes and exams started. Now students are not subjected to the limited knowledge of the person sitting in front of them during the exam, but have access to answers given by people all over the world.

Schools have started using various AI technologies to conduct proctored examinations and prevent the use of such vast knowledge in examinations. What people don't understand is that, if a student really wants to cheat, he/she will surely find a way for it no matter what. Like they say, where there is a will, there is a way ,right?😂. But simple and prevalent daily problems such as power cuts can easily become a cause of stress  for sincere students attending exams through such technologies. This, along with the kind of checking done in some controversial national level exams makes me wonder why is all this necessary at all?

If we humans have had the ability to develop such advanced technologies which claim or try to prevent cheating during exams, why couldn't we come up with a solution for eliminating the problem of cheating itself? Isn't that the problem which the society must focus on?

Examinations, in theory, are meant to find out how much of whatever was taught has been understood by the child. In other words, it is a test to see how well the teacher has taught. But what purpose does it actually serve now? Only as a basis for discrimination and favoritism.

This whole system of having written examinations can be considered as a test of  knowledge of factual information and memory, but never of skill and practical knowledge, both of which are the main things that help us in our lives.

So what is the solution for this? The evaluation system needs to be changed. Instead of focusing on that one final board exam to determine the student's career, continuous evaluation system should be adopted. More focus must be on developing the child's skill, which can be tested through projects or viva exams.

The world is running at a rocket's speed. If our huge youth population is tapped and proper training given to students to develop not only their knowledge but also their skill, India will surely become the talent hub of the world.

So what do you think can be done to improve our education system? Feel free to leave a comment below 'cause I'd love to know what you guys think : )

  1. What can be done to improve our education system is a question which I don't know the answer to. But yes, exams are supposed to be a measure to see how much the student has been able to grasp and how much they have understood and how well the teachers have been able to teach. If we want to stop students from cheating, if we want to focus on the child's skills and their knowledge, if we want them to be successful, then I think the change needs to start from home and the perspective of the society needs to change. I mean if students are taught to work hard and study for knowledge and not just marks and are not pressurized into getting 95+, then why would the child even bother creating? If we want our youth to be successful, then shouldn't they get the freedom to choose their career instead of going down the path laid down by the society? I mean how can one be successful without being happy? Because if that's the case then I doubt anyone would want to be successful. Again, student's skills and passions are being killed, I mean how can you expect an artist or an athlete to be an engineer? Imagine if someone who wants to do something in arts or sports is forced to go into science or IIT, then isn't their dream crushed? Like you said, the world is moving at a rocket speed, and we need to make our children flexible enough, independent, responsible and confidential enough to face the outside world, the future and to follow their dreams.

    1. I absolutely agree with you, all changes start from right at the home.... if parents change their mind so will the next generation, and finally students will get to do what they really want to do, as you said, success and happiness are not exclusive of each other, and I really appreciate the fact that you took your time out to read the post and also share your views upon it !! Thankss : )

  3. The critical mind which went through the folly of the poor proctoring practice of CBSE and NEET and gave a sarcastic questioner comment is much appreciabl and it is wonderful Avanthika the child, where you are comfortably hiding😀 ...super!!.

This critical analysis and arguments(கல்வி, கேள்வி ,தருக்கம்,) were actually found among many old Thamizh way of practical educati on, sure rare commodity in this NEETist age.

I wonder how smart you to cover up the  "copy paste" art ?!

Really I appreciate your piece of thinking..grow it up my child👍

  4. For people who write exams honestly are also forced to write PROCTORE EXAMS. If we face glitches there is a very complicated procedure for re joining the exam. These give unnecesarry
    stress and many people panic.

Currently its a headache for teachers also. they have to learn this complicated stuff and which piles up their work in their proffesion

We all hope that the revolution of online schools ends and the physical and school opens and let students enjoy their schooling life

The Boy in Bus No.19: MTC Diaries 1

If you're travelling in an MTC bus during the 8am to 10am slot, you might as well forget that seats exist in the bus. The newly made buses are in fact designed to provide for more place to stand. It was one such bus I was traveling on that day. I'd been standing for an hour, and finally got a seat: it wasn't exactly a seat, it's the box-like structure under which perhaps there were some mechanical parts, which MTC users started sitting on when the bus got too crowded. Hoping to rest my legs for at least the 10 minutes of the ride left, I sat on it, relieved. As destiny would have it, the relief didn't last long. This anna standing near me said, "He's been standing for very long, let him sit ma". And I looked around, expecting an old, grey haired man. It turned out I had to look down: it was a small boy, who wasn't even as tall as the box he was about to sit on. I let him sit, and was curious because he had no one with him.  He said he was going to...

Can I Tell You A Story?

“Can I tell you a story, puttu?” my grandmother asked me, while I was busy typing away on my laptop. I instantly felt bad that I hadn't even talked to her properly after coming home for the weekend, it was already Sunday evening. After at least four assurances that she wasn’t disturbing my studies or work, she went back to the 1950s, when she was in college. She’d gone there, but didn’t fit in. On the first day, everyone her own age kept calling her “akka” – she was disheartened. She left without paying her fee, not meaning to coming back to the college. On the way back though, she’d noticed an announcement that said that a girl child with no father, no property, and some other conditions, could claim some 1000 rupees or so. She’d immediately gone and registered for it. When she came back home to her single mother who really wanted her to pursue graduation, and told her she hadn’t paid the fee at the college ‘cause she didn’t fit in, she was instructed plainly to go back the next...

The Leap to College

Imagine being in an entirely new city with a bunch of people whom you have never known all around you – a new hostel room to stay, a new roommate to share it with, lunch and dinner no longer with your family but people from all over the country. This is how hostel life feels like. Fresh out of school, we’re   always used to being told what to do. But at college, there’s no one to push you around to do stuff anymore, no more of your mom running behind you to make you sit and study. It is adulting at its prime, anything and everything that you do is out of your own initiative. But its not all gloom and despair, I’ve learnt some of life’s greatest lessons in these three months of my first trimester at college. I’ve finally learnt to manage things on my own, take responsibility, travel alone and most importantly - balance studies and self-care. Health is a legit concern when you’re living out of home, but I guess learning to keep yourself healthy is just part of the game. I’m not...
